Negro league players closed the racial gap starting in 1949 with Jackie Robinson's debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Great players like Satchel Paige, Monte Irvin, Buck Leonard, Superman Pennington, Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell gave the Afro-American community true baseball heros.
